Start of the Morecambe Bay fund-raising walk for Leeds Children’s Holiday Camp Association on the most glorious day of 2008.

I’m the one above the apostrophe S, wearing reflector specs and dangly earrings.

For over one hundred years, the camp has been providing free holidays for children who need them. This year, children from Chernobyl joined children from Leeds for part of the season.

SUCH A JOURNEY published by Bradford Libraries, 1997, ISBN 0-907734-42-1

Illustrated by Claire Harris

For the best part of a year I collected and edited Bradford people’s peace stories, poems and memories for the Peace Museum – an unforgettable experience. Fifty people, age eight to eighty plus, contributed a wealth of material. A travelling exhibition based on the project, including photographs, drawings, paintings and text, is available from the Peace Museum.

‘a remarkable anthology … You don’t need to be a Bradfordian to appreciate Such a Journey … captures the spirit of our times’

Writers’ Guild Newsletter

It gives a glimpse of how ordinary people experience life, loss, friendship, discrimination and the overwhelming kindness of strangers. I could not stop reading it.
